Description

Furosemide is a potent loop diuretic commonly used to treat conditions related to fluid retention, such as heart failure, renal disease, and edema. It works by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys, leading to increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water.

This formulation of furosemide comes in a 10 mL sterile solution for injection, with a strength of 100 mg/mL. The intravenous or intramuscular route of administration allows for rapid onset of action, often within 5 minutes of administration. The dose and frequency depend on the clinical condition of the patient and their response to treatment, with titration based on the desired diuretic effect.

Furosemide is commonly prescribed for managing edema associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, or chronic renal failure. Adverse effects may include dizziness, dehydration, hypotension, and electrolyte disturbances.
